The article from the New York Times, “Planning to Age in Place? Find a Contractor Now” is great on many levels. I know some champion movers out there, but if you’re getting older and want to stay put, there are a few things you’ll want to add to your home, while you’re able. It’s almost one of those things, ‘If I knew what I know now then…’ There are great resources within the article that will provide you with support in making decisions, particularly the “National Association of Home Builders Aging in Place” section of their website.
I summed up the article this way – it speaks to anyone wanting to stay in their homes and how they can do it; to Developers building affordable homes geared toward or having elderly residents; to Developers in general who can add some of the features (plus) discussed in the article to apartments and buildings, and to members of Construction crews, or Management teams that might want to make this an additional Specialty, and for anyone who might consider, or is interested in becoming a “Certified Aging in Place Specialist” provided by the “National Association of Home Builders.”
