Bill De Blasio’s New Affordable Housing Plan…

City Limits has some answers in their article, “Breaking Down De Blasio’s Expanded Housing Plan.” 100,000 more  units will be added to Bill De Blasio’s Affordable Housing plan for a new total of 300,000. This may address some of the concerns raised by advocates, -that the income targets for Affordable Housing do not match the need of extremely low, very low and low income persons and increases gentrification in the same neighborhoods. New changes mean that 180,000 units instead of 120,000 Affordable Housing Units will be preserved, and 120,000 will be newly constructed, rather than 80,000.  New income targets were created also in May to address the concerns about income targets and these will remain in effect. These are…: An increase by 31% of the number of homes built or preserved for a family of three earning less than $25,000 a year, or extremely low income families, and an increase by 21% of the number of homes built or preserved for families earning less than $41,000, or low income. The number of units affecting low, moderate and middle incomes were reduced by 4%, 9% and 13%. With all the new changes that will go into effect overall, however, 80% of the plan will provide housing for families of 3 earning less than 69,000 a year. These changes by NYC Housing Preservation and Development, HPD, were announced prior to the new plan to increase the number of units by 100,000 so this as said, will help.
